Over the past several years, I’ve become a lot more selective about my hunting optics. In order to get better patterns with my slug gun for deer season, I needed to move past my old 2x power fixed scope. When my friends at Hawke talked me into trying out the Endurance 30, I was glad I did.  The 3-9 x 40 variable power scope is manufactured for high performance of rifles, but it’s perfect for a slug gun. The low power let’s me keep a wide field of range when I’m hunting thick timber. Or I can dial it up to 9 power for more open shooting conditions. With a glass etched reticle with central illumination, the clarity is spectacular. I’m still “old school when it comes to my scopes, so I love the Endurance’s 30/30 Centre Cross, which is basically just a good old simple crosshair reticle. But the feature that sealed the deal was the lighted crosshairs. In low-light conditions, I can turn on the lighted crosshair, as well as control the brightness. In low light, all I need is a very little bit of glow. But in brighter conditions, the higher level of brightness does the trick. It’s also waterproof and shockproof, and it’s a snap to sight in. I almost forgot one more little reason to get one— affordability. Hunters don’t need to spend a thousand dollars to get a quality scope. Most of Hawke’s optics retail for between $100 and $300, and they’re worth every penny. Check out their full line at HawkeOptics.com.
